Welcome to DIM – Digital and Interactive Media – Part B
All assignments for this Course will be posted on this page.
The purpose of this course is to introduce you to the process of creating Digital and Interactive Media. This course will give you basic concepts and tools used in the creation of media. We will use the Adobe Suite of products including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash, Premiere Pro, and After Effects. This course is computer and project intensive and provides students with the opportunity to earn 3 hours of credit in Digital Imaging at Austin Community College.
It is highly important students not miss any classroom time as lab resources and times are extremely limited. Access to these programs off site requires significant computing resources and a subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud. The current student pricing is $29.95 a month at www.adobe.com. You cannot use an iPad to run the software in this course.
DIM – A
The first trimester generally covers desktop publishing using Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign all software commonly used for the creation of marketing materials.
DIM – B
The second trimester generally covers web and video production. We will use Photoshop, Flash Catalyst/Muse/Dreamweaver, Premiere Pro, and After Effect all commonly used in the production of movies, TV, YouTube, and other video content.
Students missing class for ANY reason will be excepted to schedule tutorial appointments to make up lab time. It is the student’s responsibility to schedule lab tutorials, Mr. Evers will NOT track you down. This is a college level course and you will be treated like a college student. DO NOT get behind in this course.

Create your own Website.
The purpose of your website is to house your Digital Portfolio and to show the world who you are. You will upload all your projects from DIM A & B as well as any other work you would like to show to the world.
Three options to create your site.
Each site has free and paid options. Buying your own domain, like mrevers.com costs money. You do not have to do this. This website is a wordpress site, but I find the other 2 a little bit easier to use. I personally like Wix, because it is super easy to use. They are a little more expensive if you upgrade to a paid site.
Chose a template that matches your theme or personality.
Upload your name plate as a .png file so it is featured on your site.

- Tutorial 1 – Simple Frames using Text (use Safari to open the .gif file on the iMacs)
- Tutorial 2 – Basic Frame Animation (you have to use a different font, also use the tutorial 1 method for creating the frames)
- Tutorial 3 – Animated GIFs
- Tutorial 4 – Cinematic Time Lapse (all 3 parts. Use Creative Commons to find photos similar to those in the videos)
Photos you can use for tutorial 4. Uses a Rock instead of a Sunflower.
One you complete all 4 tutorials begin the cartoon project
The Cartoon Project:
Create an Animated GIF cartoon in Photoshop using a stick figure. Have the stick figure complete a task. The background should also move. (Example: Stick figure gets out of bed, sun rises in the background)
You will need to create at least 30 frames to make this work. (5 frames per second, 30 frames creates a 6 second video)

After Effects Project – This can count as your final
After Effects is the special effects program for video editing from Adobe. It is super powerful and complex. This is your chance to enhance your videos and give you the experience to create your own content for your own YouTube channel.
On your own develop a text effect intro highlighting a production company name you create for your own future videos. (Between 3-10 seconds)
In youtube search after effects text effect tutorials and you will find many tutorials. Follow the tutorials and substitute your production name where they have their texts. I have linked a few really cool ones that you can do. It will take you a few hours to complete these, so do not waste your time!!!
My Example: HIP Intro
Basic Effects – Kriscoart Productions (in his comments he links other cool effects)
Cinematic Titles – MotionMile (This one is awesome, tough, but awesome)
Shatter Effect – Edge-CGI (You might really like this one)
Fire Effect – MotionSquared (Fire and Smoke)
